Un. Un. Un., (2024)

Anna-Maria and Stephen Kellen Gallery, New York, NY

A contemplation on the human experience of holding on, of living in the limbo between the cognitive determination to let go and the emotional need to linger a little longer in the past. The name was distilled from the prefixes of “un” in words and phrases that motivate my practice: to unbreak the broken, to mend the unmendable, to make the dead undead. The title also sounds like the first sounds I utter when attempting to explain my obsessive urge to hold on to the fleeing: places, people, passage, or the idea of a home. I can only produce such syllabi, as some ruptures in life still remain unspeakable, and others cannot be stated as “I am never good at saying goodbyes”. Like shadows that almost touch the land, like the sea I will never find.
